About

Emmanuel Santos has been an artist for as long as he can remember. The son of Dominican parents, he was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and still living there. At a young age, he was introduced to video games and art by his late uncle, who would often draw video game and cartoon characters, and played Super Mario World and Street Fighter II. This helped spark his interest in character design and illustration, and the rest is history.

He graduated from LaGuardia Community College with an Associate's degree in Fine Arts. He's received the Dean’s List award every semester and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa. He has had his piece “Train to Boney Island” (depicted below) exhibited in the Emergency Exit exhibition at LaGuardia Community College and is the winner of the ASAP Planner Cover Design Contest. After winning this contest, ASAP hired him to redesign the logo and poster for the Career Development program. Emmanuel has also done work for Gay Geeks of New York, and has provided character designs and concept art for the short “All He Wants for Christmas“.

Emmanuel is currently working on two graphic novels, with his partner writing Stone Hearts.

Ok but, why “Last Minute Art”?

Yes, why would I describe my portfolio with such an unreliable sounding name like "Last Minute Art"? Well, back in 2016, I was at a point in my life where I was feeling very frustrated with where I was in my life. I was living with parents, I didn't have a job, and I still hadn't finished college (embarrassingly, I dropped out in 2010 after only finishing about 1 years' worth of classes). While I was lazily surfing the internet, I stumbled upon a post-Comic-Con art show. Determined to get out of this rut that I found myself in, I decided to RSVP to it and display some art that I had. I realized in that moment that I should also have some form of contact on social media. I chose Instagram, since it felt like the best platform to showcase artwork at the time. I wasn't sure if I should use my actual name, so I decided on using a handle. Because this was all done at the last minute, I felt that I had a name staring at me in the face. And thus, Last Minute Art came to be.

On that note, no, I do not do all my work at the "last minute". I'm still trying to be professional here after all (I might post artwork a little later than intended, but it's always done before then).
